Hi, nice site.. I was wondering if you know of a story of someone who waits for a streetcar in Cleveland..a ghost, somewhere on the east side...and that is all I remember of hearing of the story I read 20 years ago. Does that remotely ring a bell?
Also, I wonder why Franklin Castle, besides the politics, has not been aggressively pursued by ghost enthusiasts from all over, who may want to donate for restoration. It happened with The Christmas Story House..Superman House.. Weill, what about preserving and restoring one of the said to be most haunted houses in Ohio? Perhaps such a place would be a good museum for the neighborhood and B&B, attracting those who like this sort of thing...and something that can be a feature on A&E, or something like that.
I live in Ohio City...walk past the castle a lot... The property is maintained well in the front and side where St. Herman's is..But it is too bad the castle itself just sits there risking decay. I am surprised with how popular the ghost interest is---that no one has prompted an idea. The private social club thing is not, in my opinion, a good idea...and was a facade.
Your knowledge is appreciated!
Regards,
Robert
I was lucky enough to be able to go inside the castle 2 years ago. I got the whole story. A man does own the castle and it is in the process of complete restoration/renovation. They are going room by room. It is mostly gutted on the inside, to make way for updated piping and electrical needs. They are attepmting to keep orginal flooring and some walls. The estimated costs for this project was near one million dollars per floor. There is original wallpaper from the germans as they used it for a speak easy. Also original gas lighting hanging around the house. They are trying to keep as much as they can. They offer guided tours (at a price) until the renovations get too complex. After the renovations are complete the owner will allow cameras and crews inside for documentaries and such. It is just a little dangerous inside right now. I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteI have photos of the Franklin Castle.Up on Myspace to look at. Mary Uhlik or Meldas_ Ghost
ReplyDeleteThe town itself is Haunted. The Hooded man that is in front of the castle is from the french and Indian War 1600. blown up there are full bodied apparitions, of men in armored suits, and wild animals, plus many faces. The castle just happen to be built there. Do not copy Photos they are just there to look at. There are some spirits that lived in the castle that are standing outside. We have best of both Worlds. The House and the Lands town. Any info. contact me (330) 208-2536

ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. Even I live far away from OH and never visited Franklin Castle, I am following it´s story since years. Good to hear it will be renovated.
I'VE ASKED THE MAN WHO OWNS THE HOUSE IF HE EVER CONTACTED THE GUYS FROM THE GHOSTHUNTERS SHOW TO INVESTIGATE IT.HE SAYS HE HAS SPOKEN WITH THE PEOPLE FROM THE SHOW AND THAT IT IS ALOT MORE COMPLICATED THEN IT SEEMS.HE SAYS HE MAY DO HIS OWN INVESTIGATION SOMETIME.
ReplyDeleteGet this house renovated already! It would make a great visitors center for Ohio City. Of all the houses that should NOT be allowed to go into decline, this should be the one bastion of classic home renovations along one of the main thoroughfares through the neighborhood. Operators can rent the ball room out for weddings, meetings and other occasions--as well as offer a museum and ghost tours or sleep-ins. Does anyone know about what will happen to this place? The owner is in San Fran, presumably, and has not made any attempt in years to do anything with it. Either cook or get out of the kitchen with it and let someone do something socially redeeming with the property.
ReplyDeleteThe owner is not a man and not in San Fran.
ReplyDeleteGo to http://auditor.cuyahogacounty.us and click on property information in the left menu. Put in the address (4308 Franklin Blvd) and select the city (Cleveland West). It's owned by Michelle Heimburger, who is a Cleveland native and currently lives in Mansfield, OH. She bought the house in 99 with high hopes of remodeling, but became disenchanted with that idea after the fire. If you'd like to contact her and tell her what to do with it, her mailing address is on the "taxes" tab when you look it up on the auditor's page.
Thanks for the information....Yes, I knew she owned it and owned it for years. The sad fact is, that while she resides wherever she is, the house is declining and becoming another offense to the neighborhood. I did not suggest in my post that the owner was 'a man'

I have tried for three months to contact this Milsaps fellow that supposedly gives tours. I have yet to hear back from him, and do not think I ever will. Nothing is currently being done with the place. Has anyone seen people coming and going recently?
